The Shimano line is the only outstanding part of the two days. No tangles. No twist and no backlash on the battcaster. First time I've used it. Put on reels as 12 foot leaders and full casting length line on 2 of 6 reels. Very pleases with it. The wind sure can blow in Oklahoma. Old Town Kayak performed nicely.

They were shallow and near the reeds in 5 ft of water. Slow presentations worked best for the bigger fish.

The speed craw is great for bed fishing which is getting ready to break loose. There are fish on beds but it has been tough at times with cold fronts coming in. If that’s not happening the smallmouth have been biting as well. A ned rig has worked and a Jerkbait as well. Fishing the conditions is the most important thing because in Oklahoma in the spring you never know what weather you will get.

I just finished up the Bassmaster Classic in Tulsa. Day one was a bit slower for me but I was able to rally on day two and bring in 17-8 to finish in 30th place. I used a jerkbait a bunch during the event, primarily the Rapala PXR Maverick on 14lb line. I was focusing on windy flat points and deep channel swings in creeks.

- Locate schools of shad in cuts/pockets off the main channel, Marinas, or backs of coves. Use the crankbait to go through or under the school to get a bite. another method is to run the crankbait bouncing off the bottom. The best method here was to throw the Freeloader on a hover rig and go through the bait balls or swim it underneath the baitballs -Dropshotting: Locate docks or brush piles and run the dropshot along the brush or dock pilings. - Football jig: find rocky main lake points or islands and slow drag and hop the jig.

Points with small gravel with a few large isolated rocks was key. Crank Bait had to stay in contact with bottom. Once I got crank bait on bottom I slowed the bait down. Main Lake points or points in the mouth of pockets held better fish. Best 3 fish was a 4.12, 3.76, 3.53 Each fish came off a single large rock Crank Bait red in color with a orange belly worked best

Fish are moving up shallow and are out deep as well. You could literally catch fish on topwater right now because they are chasing bait fish and blowing up on them which is unusual for early March. Find the baitfish and suspended bass. Some bass are hanging with the sandbass which are also hanging with the bait. A Jerkbait and Minnow style bait were our best baits along with a few others like an A rig and Chatterbait.
