No real big fish but fishing a frog is always great. It was nearing the end of the day and lower light conditions. I wouldn’t say it was matted but it was just starting to clump just a little bit on the bank. It was also pretty calm too. The water temp was 62-65. I’d literally cast onto the bank and start to walk the frog back and they’d crush it. You definitely could have gotten bit fishing a spook and that would have been better hook ups but it wouldn’t be near as efficient and weedless. I was fishing this on a 7ft medium heavy with a 8.1 gear ratio Daiwa Tatula reel with 30lb braid. Be prepared to catch’em...

It was low light conditions and you would have to cast that popper right up next to the laydown right on the bank and just pop it a couple of times and let it pause. They would just crush it on the pause. I was using 30 lb braid to a foot to foot and a half of monofilament. That would allow the braid to not tangle around any of the treble hooks. I also put a Duolock Snap on that popper because it doesn't come with a split ring on the line tie, I feel it gives a little bit better action. I was fishing it on a 7' medium baitcasting rod with a 7.1. reel. The cast was extremely important, you almost had to hit the bank and the laydown!

It’s about as simple as it could be to catch fish but just in a different situation. The wind was blowing probably 15-20 mph and normally you’d want to escape the wind just to make it easier on yourself but what I found is that if you’d cast with the wind past a lay down anywhere from 3-8 feet deep and let the wacky rig fall with slack line. That’s because for one you can let it sink more naturally and it will “pulse” on its way down as well. The second best tip was to have any sort of high visibility braid so you could see your line jump in the wind otherwise it was super hard to detect the bite with the wind blowing. Especially if you don’t have super high grade equipment. If the wind was blowing more I would have probably changed over to a Neko rig just for the fact that’d it’d fight the wind a little bit better than a weightless worm. I was wacky rigging a Senko but any type of Stick worm will work as long as it has enough salt in it. Make sure to tie a 12 lb fluorocarbon leader on your spinning rod just for a little extra insurance if he does get wrapped up in the lay down. Also go and get a VMC wacky tool so you can get at least 2x as many fish on each Senko before switching out.
